VERAN / 3D SCANNING

3D Scanning
in Pretoria.

Bring an existing part into your digital workflow.

We help individuals and businesses capture the shape of existing parts and objects for digital reference, design development and reverse engineering.

Tell us what you want to do with the result: keep a digital reference, develop an editable CAD model or work towards a printed replacement. We will review the object and agree the capture and modelling work needed.

WHAT SCANNING CAN HELP WITH

Start with the part you already have.

Digital reference

Capture accessible surface geometry as a reference for a design project. Useful when a physical object exists but an original digital model is not available.

Replacement and redesign

Use an existing component as a starting point for CAD reconstruction, changes or a proposed replacement. Missing features and worn or broken areas need additional design decisions rather than a direct copy of the scan.

Designing around an object

Use captured geometry to help develop a cover, housing, adapter or other component around an existing object. Important interfaces and fitting dimensions are identified for separate checking where needed.

HOW WE APPROACH YOUR SCAN

Capture the shape. Define the output.

01 | Review the object

Send photographs, approximate dimensions and the intended use of the scan. We assess the surfaces, the detail required and any preparation before agreeing the approach.

02 | Capture and process

Capture the agreed accessible surfaces and process the scan data into the quoted output. Mesh cleanup, alignment and any work on gaps are defined in the scope so you know how the data will be prepared.

03 | Develop the next step

Receive the agreed scan files, or continue with CAD reconstruction and prototyping if included in the project. The intended use determines whether a mesh alone is sufficient or further modelling is needed.

CAPABILITIES & CONSIDERATIONS

The object determines the approach.

Size and detail

Provide the overall dimensions and identify small features that matter. Suitable object sizes, achievable detail and the required accuracy are assessed for the specific job.

If you need a particular dimensional tolerance or an inspection report, tell us before quoting so we can confirm whether the required work can be offered.

Surface and preparation

Surface colour and finish can affect capture. Shiny, transparent or very dark areas may need a different approach or surface preparation, depending on the equipment and object.

Tell us if the object is delicate or its surface must remain untouched. Any proposed preparation is discussed before scanning.

Access and condition

The scanner can only capture surfaces it can see. For deep or hidden areas and internal details, we may need extra measurements, photos or drawings to complete the model.

A scan records the object in its current condition. Wear, damage and missing sections must be considered when developing a replacement or interpreting the result.

Tell us if colour or texture information is required as well as shape. We will confirm the available capture and export options for your project.

WHAT YOU RECEIVE

The right data.
For your next step.

Your quote defines the captured areas, processing work and files supplied. Depending on the agreed scope, deliverables can include:

  • A processed digital surface model (mesh) representing the captured areas.
  • Mesh files such as STL or OBJ, where supported and suitable for your workflow.
  • A reconstructed CAD model and agreed CAD exports when separately included.
  • A printed prototype or replacement when design and printing are included.

A scan mesh represents surface geometry. An editable CAD model requires additional reconstruction work. File formats, units and any remaining gaps or limitations are identified for the agreed output.

WHAT WE NEED

Show us the object.

  • Clear photographs from several sides and approximate overall dimensions.
  • What the object is and how you intend to use the scan.
  • Critical features, fitting points and any required accuracy.
  • Details of wear, damage, missing areas or restricted access.
  • The software, file formats or supplier that will use the result.
  • Whether you need scan data, CAD reconstruction, printing or a combination.
  • Your preferred completion date and how the object can be made available.

Contact us before bringing or sending the object so we can review suitability and arrange the next step.

FROM OUR WORKSHOP

From a physical part to useful data.

Scanning a Person’s Leg for a Prostetic

The requirement
Capture the shape of a person’s existing leg to create a digital reference for developing a prosthetic for the opposite side.

Our approach
We scanned the leg and processed the captured mesh into a usable digital model. We then prepared a CAD model and mirrored it to represent the opposite leg.

The result
A processed scan mesh and mirrored CAD model, providing a reference for the shape and proportions of the prosthetic during further design development.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Before you get started.

Will the scan give me an editable CAD model?

A surface mesh and an editable CAD model are different outputs. Tell us if you need CAD files so we can quote the reconstruction work and confirm suitable formats for your software.

Can you recreate a broken or worn part?

Send photographs of the part, its damage and any components it fits. Scanning may provide useful reference geometry, but missing areas and original dimensions may need measurements and design work. We will assess the proposed replacement before agreeing the scope.

Can shiny, black or transparent objects be scanned?

Suitability depends on the surface, equipment and detail required. Send photographs first. We will review the object and discuss any proposed preparation, particularly where the surface must remain untouched.

Can you print a part from the scan?

We can discuss scanning, modelling and printing together. A captured mesh may need cleanup, repairs or CAD reconstruction before it is suitable for the intended printed part. These steps and the printing work are included only where agreed.

How much does scanning cost, and how long does it take?

The quote depends on the object’s size, accessible surfaces, preparation, required detail and processing or modelling work. Send photographs, dimensions and your intended output so we can propose a price and estimated completion time.

YOUR NEXT STEP

Let’s discuss your scan.

Send photographs and dimensions, and tell us what you need the digital model to do. We will help define a suitable starting point.
