VERAN / CAD DESIGN
CAD Design
in Pretoria.
Give your idea a clear shape.
We help individuals and businesses turn ideas, sketches and existing parts into 3D CAD models. Develop a new component, refine a design or prepare a model for the next stage of making.
Start with what you have. We will discuss the intended use, important dimensions and digital files you need before agreeing the scope.

WHAT WE CAN DESIGN
From an idea to a defined model.
Custom components
Brackets, housings, covers, adapters and other parts shaped around your requirements. Tell us how the part connects to the rest of your project.
Existing parts
Create a digital model using an existing component, measurements or reference drawings. Where useful, we can discuss 3D scanning as part of the project.
Design refinement
Adjust dimensions, add features or develop an existing concept further. Refinements may include mounting points, clearances and changes for an agreed printing or manufacturing process.
HOW WE DEVELOP YOUR DESIGN
Define it. Review it. Refine it.
01 | Define the requirement
We discuss the purpose of the part, reference information and key dimensions. The proposed scope identifies what will be modelled and what information is still needed.
02 | Review the model
Review the shape and details against your brief. Identify changes to dimensions, features or appearance before the agreed files are prepared. Review stages and included revisions are set out in the quote.
03 | Prepare the next step
The final model is supplied in the agreed formats. If a physical prototype would help assess fit or assembly, we can quote the printing and any further design changes.
DESIGN CONSIDERATIONS
Designed around the intended use.
Dimensions and interfaces
Identify the dimensions that matter: mounting holes, threads, mating surfaces and space available around the part. Tell us which measurements must be held and provide the relevant components or drawings where possible.
Making the part
Material and manufacturing choices affect the design. We can discuss features such as wall thickness, clearances and print orientation for the proposed process. The required checks are agreed for your project.
Checks and testing
A CAD model defines geometry; it does not by itself prove strength, service life or fit in use. Any load calculations, simulation, physical testing or production validation need to be specifically agreed in the scope.
Photographs and scan data can provide useful reference information. Accurate dimensions may still require measurements, and converting scan data into an editable CAD model is a separate modelling task.
WHAT YOU RECEIVE
An agreed model.
Useful digital files.
Your quote defines the model, file formats and supporting work included. Depending on the project, deliverables can include:
- A 3D CAD model developed to the agreed brief.
- Exchange files such as STEP, or printing files such as STL or 3MF, where agreed and supported.
- Native CAD files, dimensioned drawings or other supporting outputs when included in the scope.
- The agreed review stages and revisions.
Tell us which software or supplier will use the files. Native editable files and exported models are different deliverables; we will confirm what can be supplied.
WHAT WE NEED
Start with what you have.
- A description of the part and what it needs to do.
- Sketches, photographs, drawings or existing digital files.
- Key measurements and any parts it needs to fit or connect to.
- Your intended material and manufacturing process, if known.
- Required file formats, drawings and other deliverables.
- Your preferred completion date and any known project constraints.
You do not need a finished brief to enquire. Explain what is known and what you still need help defining.
FROM OUR WORKSHOP
See the design take shape.

Custom Laser Holder
The requirement
A custom holder was needed to fit a specific laser pointer to a firearm.
Our approach
We designed the holder around the laser pointer’s shape and measurements, taking into account where it needed to attach to the firearm.
The result
A custom-made holder, manufactured in stainless steel / aluminium to fit the chosen laser pointer.

COMMON QUESTIONS
Before you get started.
Can you help if I only have an idea or a sketch?
Yes. Send what you have, together with an explanation of how the part will be used. We can discuss the information and design work needed to develop a model.
Can you work from an existing part or a 3D scan?
We can discuss modelling from an existing component, measurements or scan data. The available detail, access to the part and required accuracy will determine the proposed approach. Scanning and CAD reconstruction are quoted according to the agreed scope.
Will I receive an editable CAD file?
Tell us if you need a native editable file and which software you use. We will confirm the available formats and what is included before work begins. An STL printing file does not contain the same design information as a native CAD model.
Can you print the design as well?
Yes. We can quote a printed prototype or finished part alongside the CAD work. Printing, material, quantity and any further revisions are agreed separately in the scope.
How much does CAD design cost, and how long does it take?
The quote depends on the complexity of the part, the reference information available, required outputs and review work. Send your project details so we can propose a scope, price and estimated completion time.
YOUR NEXT STEP
Let’s shape your next idea.
Send your sketch, measurements or existing model. Tell us what you want to achieve, and we will help define the next step.
